Key takeawaysThe story in 20 seconds

01From 9 November 2026, new ChatGPT Ads conversion campaigns use Target CPA and click campaigns use Target CPC, and Max Bid and Max CPC retire on 1 January 2027.

02Google AI Mode can now show up to four ads in a single response, Search Engine Roundtable reported on 4 November 2026.

03Google Ads added California, South Korea and Vietnam to its AI content disclosure regions on 5 November 2026, and India was already on the list.

04Server-side Google Tag Manager will pass full visitor IP addresses to Google Ads tags from 11 January 2027 unless advertisers redact them.

Monday, 9 November is the date to circle. From that day, ChatGPT Ads swaps Max Bid for Target CPA on new conversion campaigns, and the old bid caps retire on 1 January 2027. That is the marketing news this week with a clock on it, and it sits inside a bigger pattern: every AI answer box you use is filling up with ad slots.

Below are the 10 stories from 1 to 7 November 2026 that matter for Indian marketers, sorted by what you should do about them rather than by platform.

Bidding, labels and tracking all changed this week, and two of them have dates attached.

What changes in ChatGPT Ads bidding on 9 November?

From 9 November 2026, new ChatGPT conversion campaigns use Target CPA instead of Max Bid, and new click campaigns use Target CPC instead of Max CPC. OpenAI told advertisers by email that Max Bid and Max CPC retire on 1 January 2027, when existing campaigns are converted automatically.

Target CPC can bid above or below your number in any single auction, so treat it as an average, not a ceiling. Autobid is renamed intelligent bidding. The email surfaced via Search Engine Roundtable.

OpenAI’s own advice is blunt: set targets from your recent actual CPA, because a restrictive target can leave budget unspent. Indian advertisers already running here, like the insurer in our Axis Max Life ChatGPT Ads breakdown, should move before the forced switch rather than after it.

Our maths (illustrative account): say a ChatGPT conversion campaign spent ₹60,000 in the last 30 days and got 75 leads. Your real CPA is ₹800. Start the target at ₹800 to ₹880, about 10% headroom. Setting ₹500 because “the algorithm will find cheaper leads” is how you end the week with ₹20,000 unspent and no data.

Two dates for your calendar

9 November 2026: Target CPA and Target CPC go live in ChatGPT Ads Manager. 1 January 2027: Max Bid and Max CPC retire and old campaigns convert automatically.

Are AI answers turning into ad slots?

Yes, and fast. In one week Google began showing up to four ads in a single AI Mode response, Reddit started testing ads in its own search results, and OpenAI said ChatGPT now handles about a fifth of Google’s query volume. Paid placement is following attention. Last week we tracked AI Mode ads reaching India; this week the inventory grew.

Google AI Mode, four ads. Barry Schwartz, executive editor of Search Engine Roundtable, reported on 4 November that AI Mode can now show up to four ads per query, after a screenshot from Sachin Patel. Google had said on its Q3 earnings call that AI Mode would get more ads, more often.

ChatGPT at 20% of Google. Adam Fry, ChatGPT’s consumer product lead, told Alex Kantrowitz of Big Technology that search-like queries are “roughly one-fifth the volume of queries of Google”. Weekly users rose from one billion to 1.2 billion in about two months, he added.

Reddit search ads. Reddit announced on 3 November a test with “a select group of eligible advertisers”. The reason is plain in its numbers: US daily users fell to 50.7 million in Q3 2026 as Google’s AI answers send fewer visitors. Reddit has not named markets, so Indian brands can watch this one.

50.7 mnReddit US daily users in Q3 2026, down 2% year on year

The free AI answer box had a short life. Budget for it like any other auction.

Do Indian advertisers need Google’s AI content label?

Yes, if your ads target India and use certain AI-generated or AI-edited assets. India was already on Google’s disclosure list with the EU and New York. On 5 November Google added California, South Korea and Vietnam, and its help page now says the label may appear on the ad itself in some regions.

The wording sits in Google’s AI content label help page and Merchant Center’s product data specification. For D2C brands running AI product shots through Shopping and Performance Max, this is live.

The tools also got faster. OpenAI shipped ChatGPT Images 2.6 on 4 November, with animated GIFs, reusable reference images and two API models: Flare for speed and Sunburst for quality, markup and SVG export. AI Weekly reported OpenAI’s claim of over 4 billion images a week. Pricing was not disclosed.

Faster image tools mean more AI assets, and more of them now need a disclosure.

Watch out: a Diwali GIF made in Images 2.6 and run in a Google campaign targeting India can trigger the AI disclosure rules. Check the label setting before launch, not after a disapproval.

What should you fix in tracking before January 2027?

Check two things: server-side Google Tag Manager and your Search Console click data. From 11 January 2027, server-side GTM lets Google Ads, DV360, SA360 and CM360 tags receive full visitor IP addresses, while Google Analytics tags keep redacting them. Separately, some sites saw sudden click spikes this week that may come from bots.

The GTM change came in a Google email that Govind Singh posted on X. It changes a default, and a transformation can still redact IPs before any tag reads them. Under the DPDP Act, an IP linked to a person is personal data, so decide deliberately. Our DPDP consent manager explainer covers the 13 November rule that lands next.

On Search Console, Search Engine Roundtable logged reports of unexplained click spikes on 4 November, with SEO consultant Glenn Gabe suggesting AI agents or bots. Microsoft said the same week that AI agents had nearly doubled in three weeks to almost 2 million. If your clicks jumped and conversions did not, check bot traffic first. Our Microsoft Clarity AI visibility guide shows how.

Money moves: Snap grows, Emami shows the quick commerce shift

Snap’s Q3 2026 revenue rose 14% to $1.72 billion, about ₹16,170 crore at ₹93.89 to the dollar (the 6 November close). CEO Evan Spiegel credited AI across its ad platform, afaqs! reported.

Closer to home, Emami’s Q2 revenue rose 36% to ₹1,088 crore, with domestic volume up 43%. The detail for media planners: quick commerce is now about 15% of Emami’s digital sales. If a Navratna and Zandu Balm company gets that share from Blinkit-style apps, your FMCG client’s retail media plan probably needs a quick commerce line.

PingTalks verdict

The one to act on this week is ChatGPT Ads bidding. Switch one campaign to Target CPA on 9 November at your real CPA, watch spend for seven days, then move the rest well before 1 January. Skip it only if you cannot yet track a conversion. In that case, fix tracking first, because no bid strategy rescues bad data.

The counterpoint. Target-based bidding needs volume. A small Indian account getting 10 conversions a month gives the system little to learn from, and OpenAI itself warns that tight targets stall delivery. Bot clicks muddying Search Console may also muddy the conversion signals these strategies learn from.

What to do now

  • Pull 30-day CPA and CPC for every ChatGPT Ads campaign and set Target CPA or CPC at that number plus 10%.
  • Open Google Ads AI content label settings and check every India-targeted campaign that uses AI images or video.
  • Compare Search Console clicks with GA4 sessions for 1 to 7 November and flag any gap above 30%.
  • Book a 30-minute review with your legal or privacy lead on server-side GTM IP handling before 11 January 2027.

Frequently asked questions

When does ChatGPT Ads retire Max Bid and Max CPC?

OpenAI told advertisers that Max Bid and Max CPC retire on 1 January 2027. From 9 November 2026, new conversion campaigns use Target CPA and new click campaigns use Target CPC, and older campaigns are converted automatically at retirement.

How should I set a Target CPA in ChatGPT Ads?

Start from your actual CPA over the last 30 days, not a hoped-for number. OpenAI warns that restrictive targets can leave budget unspent, so a target at or slightly above your real CPA is the safer starting point.

How many ads can Google AI Mode show?

Google AI Mode can now show up to four ads for a single query, according to a Search Engine Roundtable report on 4 November 2026. Most AI Mode answers still show one or two ads.

Does Google require AI content labels on ads targeting India?

Yes. India is one of the regions where Google requires disclosures for ads with certain AI-generated or AI-edited assets, alongside the EU, New York, California, South Korea and Vietnam. In some regions the label can appear on the ad itself.

What changes in server-side Google Tag Manager on 11 January 2027?

Server-side GTM moves from container-wide IP redaction to per-tag handling. Google Ads, DV360, SA360 and CM360 tags will accept full IP addresses while Google Analytics tags keep redacting them, and advertisers can still redact IPs with a transformation.

Is Reddit search advertising available in India?

Reddit announced a test of ads in its search results on 3 November 2026 with a select group of eligible advertisers. It has not named the markets in the test, so Indian advertisers should not plan budgets around it yet.
