Every major Meta ads update since January 2025, dated and verified on Meta's own pages, with what changed and exactly what to do next.

01Meta removed the 7-day view and 28-day view attribution windows from the Ads Insights API on 12 January 2026, while click windows and 1-day view remain.
02Meta blocked creation of legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns on every Marketing API version on 19 May 2026; Advantage+ is now three levers inside a normal Sales, App or Leads campaign.
03Meta Marketing API v26.0, released 29 July 2026, removed the Instagram Explore placement and added conversion optimisation and 10-card carousels to WhatsApp Status ads.
04Meta told advertisers product browsing switches on in existing Facebook and Instagram ads on 28 October 2026 unless they opt out per ad or via the notice.
This page logs every major Meta ads update since January 2025, dated and checked against Meta’s own pages. It covers Facebook ads, Instagram ads, Threads ads, WhatsApp ads and the Marketing API changes that quietly break campaigns and reports. Last updated: 24 October 2026.
The short version: Advantage+ is now the default way to buy, view-through attribution got shorter, and WhatsApp became a real ad surface. Each row below tells you what changed and what to do about it.
The biggest Meta ads updates of 2026 are the removal of 7-day view and 28-day view attribution on 12 January, the end of legacy Advantage+ shopping campaigns across every API version on 19 May, Threads ads going worldwide in January, and WhatsApp Status ads gaining conversion optimisation on 29 July 2026.
The direction is clear. Meta wants audience, placement and budget decisions, and leaves you to compete on creative. The auction is also getting pricier.
For Indian advertisers, two dated items matter most this quarter. Product browsing switches on in existing ads on 28 October 2026 unless you opt out, and Indian WhatsApp messaging accounts must move billing to INR by 31 December 2026. Both are in the checklist further down.

Newest first. Rows dated 29 July 2026 came with Marketing API v26.0 unless noted. API rows matter because Ads Manager tools, Shopify and reporting connectors all run on that API.

| 19 May 2026 | ASC and AAC creation blocked on every API version | Legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns can no longer be created or updated on any version, 90 days after v25.0 (v25 launch post). | Make sure third-party tools build Sales campaigns with the levers instead. |
| 4 May 2026 | Marketing API access tiers renamed | Auto-approval for full API access now needs 500 calls in 15 days, down from 1,500 (API changelog). | Agencies with in-house tools: recheck your access level. |

| 15 Jan 2026 | Retired targeting interests stop delivering | Older campaigns still using consolidated interests stopped delivering unless updated. | An evergreen ad set went quiet in January? Swap in the suggested interests. |
| 12 Jan 2026 | 7-day view and 28-day view attribution removed | The Ads Insights API dropped both windows. Unique and hourly breakdowns are capped at 13 months, frequency at 6 months (developer blog). | Export old breakdowns and re-baseline view-through reports. |
| 6 Jan 2026 | Flagged audience rules reach every API version | Interest consolidation and the block on flagged custom audiences and conversions applied to all versions. | Check customer file audiences for flags before using them as lookalike seeds. |
2025 was the year Meta rebuilt the plumbing. Many 2026 deadlines trace back to these rows.
| Date | Update | What changed | What to do |

Advantage+ shopping campaigns were replaced by Advantage+ sales campaigns. Since May 2025, any normal Sales campaign becomes Advantage+ when campaign budget, audience and placements are all automated. Legacy ASC creation stopped on every API version on 19 May 2026, and unmigrated campaigns were locked with v26.0 on 29 July 2026.
| Item | Legacy Advantage+ shopping (ASC) | Advantage+ sales campaign |
|---|---|---|
| How you build it | A separate campaign type | A normal Sales campaign with all three levers on |
| The three levers | Fixed by Meta | Advantage+ campaign budget, Advantage+ audience in at least one ad set, Advantage+ placements in all ad sets |
| Existing customer budget cap | Available | Deprecated with v25.0. Meta publishes guidance to replicate it |
| Leads objective | Not offered | Advantage+ leads campaigns exist |
| API status today | Cannot be created or edited | Fully supported |
Watch out: Meta’s docs say migration forces the campaign back into the learning phase, with no workaround. Never migrate a top spender in the week before Diwali or a big sale.
Meta removed the 7-day view and 28-day view attribution windows from the Ads Insights API on 12 January 2026. The 1-day click, 7-day click, 28-day click, 1-day engaged view and 1-day view windows remain. Meta also capped unique and hourly breakdowns at 13 months of history and frequency breakdowns at 6 months.
| Attribution window | Status after 12 January 2026 | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1-day click, 7-day click, 28-day click | Available | Your main conversion reporting stays intact |
| 1-day engaged view, 1-day view | Available | Short view-through credit still reported |
| 7-day view, 28-day view | Removed | Reports that relied on long view-through credit show fewer conversions |
Total values stay available for 37 months, so headline numbers are safe. Dashboards that sliced history by hour or frequency are not. Pair Meta numbers with server-side data from the Conversions API. Our guide to the best conversion tracking method for PPC shows how to build that stack.
WhatsApp became a full Meta ad placement between June 2025 and July 2026. Status ads were announced on 16 June 2025, marketing messages moved into Ads Manager on 1 July 2025, and v26.0 added conversion optimisation and 10-card carousels for Status ads. Pricing changed several times, including India rate updates in January and April 2026.
India is WhatsApp’s home market for most of our readers, so the pricing rows hit hardest. Meta’s pricing page confirms two things worth pinning above your desk. Chats started from a Click to WhatsApp ad open a free entry point window, and Indian messaging accounts must migrate billing to INR by 31 December 2026.
The 1 October 2026 change hits D2C brands: utility messages inside an open window, such as order updates, are billable again. The WhatsApp marketing and Business API guide explains message categories in detail.

Keep up with Meta ads changes by checking four official sources on a fixed rhythm: the Marketing API changelog and developer blog for deprecations, Meta Newsroom for policy and product launches, the WhatsApp Business blog and pricing page for messaging, and Meta’s quarterly results for auction trends. Then check this tracker once a month.
Running Google too? The Google Ads updates tracker follows the same format, so one monthly review covers both platforms.
Four dated changes land before the end of 2026.
Meta told advertisers it will switch on product browsing in existing Facebook and Instagram ads on 28 October unless they opt out. PPC Land reported the notice and found no Meta help page for it. Decide per ad in Advantage+ creative and destination settings.
Our explainer on Meta adding product browsing to your ads on 28 October walks through the opt-out and when to keep it on.
| Date | What happens | Your check |
|---|---|---|
| 27 Oct 2026 | Poll ads, Messenger Stories, web-only Web+App creatives and three delivery estimate fields stop on all API versions | Audit live poll ads and Web+App campaigns |
| 28 Oct 2026 | Product browsing turns on in existing ads unless you opt out | Decide per ad, especially for single-product landing pages |
| 10 Nov 2026 | Marketing API v24.0 reaches the end of its availability | Ask every tool vendor which API version they call |
| 31 Dec 2026 | Indian WhatsApp messaging accounts must migrate billing to INR | Confirm the migration with your BSP and finance team |
Read a Meta ads update by answering three questions: which surface it touches (Ads Manager, the API, a placement or pricing), what date it reaches every account, and whether it changes defaults or only adds options. Default changes need action. Optional features can wait for a test slot.
“Deprecated” means it stops working on a stated date. “Default” means it is on unless you act. “Rolling out gradually” means your account may wait weeks.
A new Meta feature is an option. A new Meta default is a decision someone made for your account.
When a Meta update hits, log the date in your account notes, check which live campaigns use the affected feature, and change one thing at a time so you can read the impact. For defaults, decide on purpose rather than accepting them silently. For reporting changes, annotate dashboards so nobody misreads the drop.
Most “Meta broke my account” moments trace to a retired placement, a retired interest or a shorter attribution window. For campaign structure basics, go back to the Meta ads guide. If you are still splitting spend by app, read Facebook ads vs Instagram ads first.
Meta’s 2025 and 2026 changes all push the same way: fewer manual levers, more automation, more surfaces. Fighting it costs you reach. The winning move for Indian advertisers is to accept Advantage+ structure, then control what still matters: creative, destinations, defaults and clean conversion data. Review this log every month and act on defaults within a week.
The latest dated change is product browsing switching on in existing Facebook and Instagram ads on 28 October 2026, unless advertisers opt out. A day earlier, on 27 October 2026, poll ads, Messenger Stories and web-only creatives in Website and App campaigns stop working on every API version.
No. Meta blocked creating and updating legacy Advantage+ shopping and app campaigns on all Marketing API versions from 19 May 2026. Build a normal Sales campaign with Advantage+ campaign budget, audience and placements on, and Meta labels it an Advantage+ sales campaign.
No. Meta removed only the 7-day view and 28-day view windows on 12 January 2026. The 1-day, 7-day and 28-day click windows, plus 1-day view and 1-day engaged view, remain available in the Ads Insights API.
Meta announced ads in WhatsApp Status on 16 June 2025 with a gradual rollout, and lets businesses create them from Ads Manager. With Marketing API v26.0 on 29 July 2026, Status ads gained offsite conversion optimisation for Sales, Leads and Engagement and carousels of up to 10 cards.
Yes. Meta opened Threads ads to global advertisers in April 2025 and began rolling ads out to all Threads users worldwide in January 2026, according to TechCrunch. Keep Threads inside Advantage+ placements and supply 4:5 creative so the feed does not crop your assets.
PingTalks updates this tracker whenever Meta ships a dated change on an official page, and reviews it at least monthly. Each row links to the Meta source so you can verify it yourself.
